Week 3
Remaining Outcomes:
16,384
Just one week after defining the three tiers of competitors that had started to take form in the FEP, it appears that those tiers have been abolished completely. What seemed to be a competition taking on some sort of structure is now as wide open as ever - with Pop still way ahead of everyone else.
The Picks
The Analysis
The harder they fall: Four competitors - Sarah, Hanan, Jen, and Andy - took a leap of faith this week that almost paid off. However, a game-winning drive by Jalen Hurts led the Eagles to a victory and these sorry four competitors to an incorrect prediction. Sarah and Hanan resorted to mediocrity, falling on the weighted leaderboards from #2 and #3 to #7 and #6, respectively. On the other hand, Jen and Andy got pushed even deeper down the drain, falling on the weighted leaderboards from #7 and #9 to co-owners of the bottom two spots (#11 and #12, respectively).
Dark days: Each week, as the days have gotten shorter and shorter, so have Andy's 2024 hopes and dreams. He's the only competitor to have zero correct picks after three weeks, and his percentages don't hide it. He sits at 1.0% and 0.8% on the weighted and straight leaderboards, respectively.
Flatlining: The FEP is known for chaotic moments and dramatic movement on the leaderboards, but one competitor has decided he doesn't like drama this year. Amir's weighted percentage has netted just +2.6% from the Preseason to Week 3, and it hasn't deviated more than 5% from one week to the next. His consistency has paid off as others around him have fallen, earning him the #8 spot after starting the season in dead last. If all else fails, at least he was consistent.
Other storylines:
Worlds apart: The Top 4 competitors on the weighted leaderboard are in leagues of their own with an average of 10.8% separating them from each other. To gain an advantage, Pop (48.6%), Jay (32.2%), Emer (26.6%), and Jacob (16.1%) will need the others to slip up just as much as they need win out themselves.
No time like the present: If we zoom out just a bit to the Top 5 on the weighted leaderboard, only one competitor has ever hoisted the FEP trophy. Pop, Jay, Emer, and Buhduh have their eyes set on making history.
50+ Club: Pop continued his meteoric rise on the leaderboards this week. As the only perfect competitor, he now owns the #1 spot in over half of every remaining outcome this season.
Staying alive: Nathan and Marsha kept their heads above water, correctly picking an Eagles win after starting the season 0-2. After occupying the bottom two spots on both leaderboards last week, they're now just ahead of Jen and Andy on the weighted leaderboard. Notably, Marsha moved to #7 on the straight leaderboard, jumping Sarah and Hanan.
If Week 2 was Pop's moment of glory, Week 4 has the same implications for Emer: she's the only competitor to pick an Eagles loss to the Buccaneers. Sitting pretty at #3 on the weighted leaderboard, Emer is taking her shot and not looking back. We'll see if she can disrupt the FEP in Week 4 - and by how much.
