Week 18
Remaining Outcomes:
1
Every season begins with 131,072 possible outcomes. Along the way, chaos reigns: powerhouses rise, underdogs shock the field, and some competitors barely limp past the bye week. But no matter the twists and turns, one thing always holds true: only one competitor takes home the coveted FEP trophy.
This year, in his rookie season, Jay joined the elite ranks of just seven others to achieve the ultimate prize.
Congratulations, Jay! Your blind optimism turned out to be 20/20 vision no one else could match. Now’s the time to convince Dana the trophy belongs front-and-center on the mantle (or at least somewhere other than the basement).
To all our competitors, thank you for your passion, dedication, and commitment to the bit. However your season unfolded, let’s take one last moment to reflect on the chaos, drama, and sheer fun of it all.
The Picks
The Analysis
Final results: The final leaderboard is in! Above, you'll see the standings based on correct picks and tiebreakers (check out the full 2024 stats by toggling the table). Here are some key takeaways:
A Sloppy Year: With the Giants' victory in Week 18, Emer edged out Buhduh for second place, tying Jay and Buhduh with a season-high 11 correct picks. Funny enough, 11 correct picks wouldn't have even cracked the Top 3 in the past three seasons - 5th in 2023, 4th in 2022, and 6th in 2021. In fact, the only season where the winner won with fewer than 11 correct picks were 2016, the FEP's inaugural season, and 2020, when the Eagles finished 4-11-1 and fired Doug Pederson as a result - both of which only had 16 games in the season, too.
New Tiebreaker Alert: With five competitors tied at 9 correct picks, our newest tiebreaker had to be debuted. Jacob, Hanan, and Sarah picked identical final and divisional records, so we turned to the total points guesses that you submitted at the start of the season. Remember those? The Eagles scored 463 points, placing Jacob in 5th (459 points), Hanan in 6th (448 points), and Sarah in 7th (392 points).
Avoiding disaster: Despite being eliminated in Week 4—a full month before anyone else would be eliminated again— Andy and Jen dodged ultimate dishonor: dead last. Andy even managed to avoid a Bottom 3 finish, proving it's never too late for a comeback.
One for the Record Books: Jay delivered a performance for the ages. Starting the season in 10th with a 7.1% of winning, he lingered in the middle of the pack until Week 8, when he boldly picked an Eagles win over the Bengals. From there, it was domination: dethroning long-time leader Pop and teaming up with Emer before—just like Jon Snow in GOT Season 8 Episode 5—stabbing her in the back to claim the throne. Congratulations, Jay! Our new king!
All-time Stats: Curious where you rank in the record books? Check out the updated FEP stats page (yes, I'm plugging this again because it's a pain to maintain) for the latest standings. A few highlights:
Points God: Nathan still reigns supreme with 90 total points (10 per season on average!) and the most Top 3 finishes. But with just one trophy, he might just be the FEP's biggest choke artist.
Efficiency Champs: Sarah and Amir have one Top 3 finish each—both trophies—but lead in Bottom 3 finishes (Sarah: 5, Amir: 4). Consistency? Not their thing.
Not Your Average Joe: Jay, now undefeated in seasons played, dethroned Jacob on the all-time average leaderboard. He'll need to win every single year to keep this pace going.
Superlatives: Alas, it's time for a glorious tradition of giving everyone something to cheer about no matter how dreadful their seasons were. Here are this year's 2024 FEP Superlatives:
The Biggest Rise on the Weighted Leaderboard:
Buhduh (Week 16 - Commanders beat the Eagles) - 45.6%
The Biggest Fall on the Weighted Leaderboard (prior to Week 17):
Sarah (Week 12 - Eagles beat the Rams) - 35.7%
This is more than 2x the winner of last year. Congrats, I guess?
The Highest Individual Non-100 Percentage (Top 3):
Jemer (Week 15) - 91.2%
Jemer (Week 12) - 88.7%
Jemer (Weeks 13 & 14) - 88.4%
Talk about dominance!
The Lowest Non-Zero Win Percentage (Top - or Bottom? - 3):
Andy (Week 3) - 1.0%
Jen (Week 3) - 1.3%
Amir (Week 8) - 2.3%
The Biggest Mayhem Moment:
Emer is the only competitor to correctly pick an Eagles loss to the Buccaneers in Week 4, overtaking season-leader Pop for first place.
The Never-Had-A-Chance Club (weighted win percentage never reached above 25%):
Amir
Highest reached: 10.4% in Week 1
Andy
Highest reached: 18.6% in Preseason
Hanan
Highest reached: 24.4% in Week 9
Jen
Highest reached: 10.3% in Week 2
Marsha
Highest reached: 15.6% in Preseason
Nathan
Highest reached: 12.2% in Week 8
The Longest Correct Guess Streak:
Andy - 5
These were all in-a-row to finish the season, too! Maybe Andy's late season heat-up saved him from an upper management shakeup in the offseason.
The Start-Fast-Finish-Last Award:
Pop - Started 5-1 | Finished 4-7
The Most Surprising Elimination:
Emer - Week 15 (because I finally decided to check the tiebreakers)
The Biggest Bust:
Pop (sorry for the double-whammy), for dominating early and coming up short
The Barely-Hung-On-By-A-Thread Award:
Amir, for fluctuating between 2.3-10.4% for 9 weeks before calling it quits
The Switzerland Award (most neutral competitor in the face of all-out warfare):
Jacob
The Ignorance-is-Bliss Award:
Buhduh, for never understanding the algorithm…and never really wanting to
The "We Own the NFC East" Award:
Marsha, for being the only one to pick the Eagles to be 6-0 in the division
The "We Get It, You're (Fraternal) Twins" Award:
Hanan & Sarah, for being tied on the weighted leaderboard for three straight weeks despite not having identical picks
And just when you thought we were done - I have one last surprise for you.
For his ultimate dedication to the Family Eagles Pool groupchat, I'd like to honor Jay by retelling the ups-and-downs of the 2024 Eagles' regular season through his postgame text messages:
Preseason:
Many thanks Jacob, I suspect a lot of work has gone into this for everyone to enjoy, and also be somewhat frustrated with possibly. It will certainly be a great ride. As you pointed out I AM extremely excited and very optimistic with the changes having been made and improvements to the coaching and coordinator staff, not to mention the huge talent on bot sides of the ball for the Birds. GO EAGLES!!
Week 1 (Eagles beat Packers, 34-29):
Who’s thinking that not playing the starters first string players all pre season games seems not the best approach
Week 2 (Falcons beat Eagles, 22-21):
Brutal loss, so many issues, is this team mediocre? Where the hell was Dallas Goedert? One completed pass to him? My god, WRF?!?!
Week 3 (Eagles beat Saints, 15-12):
Great Defense, so solid, showing the Saints up in their Dome, awesome!!! 😎 And those stinking, lousy, abysmal Cowboys lose again, and it feels so GOOD!! 😊
Week 4 (Buccaneers beat Eagles, 33-16):
I’m very concerned for the rest of the Season. Sirianni looks totally lost. I put this more on coaching and not quite was much with Hurts, but he’s become a turnover machine.
Week 6 (Eagles beat Browns, 20-16):
I wasn’t able to see the game at all, was covering a memorial service at church. Seems like I was spared the customary agony that’s becoming all to regular. Same-old, same-old mediocrity. It’s going to be quite a battle next Sunday, I’m fearing it won’t end well. This team is not heading in the right direction by any measure.
Week 7 (Eagles beat Giants, 28-3):
Wow, quite a game. The Birds came up huge. Love it when go well and both sides of the ball dominate. We really needed this!
Week 8 (Eagles beat Bengals, 37-17):
The Birds came through big time. I find it hard to believe that this was the Birds first ever win in Cincinnati? And doing it in such a dominant way. Go Birds 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅!!
Week 9 (Eagles beat Jags, 28-23):
No text message sent. Jay must have been in the ER after a last second victory.
Week 10 (Eagles beat Cowboys, 34-6):
E-A-G-L-E-S .. EAGLES 🦅 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅💚🦅💚💚💚💚💚💚🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅 Dallas Sucks
Week 11 (Eagles beat Commanders, 26-18):
A nail biter comes down to an insides kick, hahahah, great win, Saquon MVP!!
Week 12 (Eagles beat Rams, 37-20):
What a tremendous win 🥇 Go Birds 🦅 🦅🦅🦅 Go BARKLEY!!!!!!! Nothing finer, and on T-Giving week!!!
Week 13 (Eagles beat Ravens, 24-19):
Nice win, given how awful it started for them, Barkley again coming up huge!! Well, this capped off a great Thanksgiving weekend. Even if I picked them to lose
Week 14 (Eagles beat Panthers, 22-16):
Phew, that was an extremely tense end to the game. Go Birds
Week 15 (Eagles beat Steelers, 27-13):
Fantastic game, best record for consecutive wins in a season, first time beating Russell Wilson, now 11-2. The terrible controversy of not utilizing AJ and Devonte? What a joke. Go Birds 🦅 🦅🦅🦅
Week 16 (Commanders beat Eagles, 36-33):
If there can be one thing that makes this loss any different is that with Washington win Cowboys are officially eliminated from any chance of post season seating.
Week 17 (Eagles beat Cowboys, 41-7):
Dallas Sucks, GO BIRDS 🦅 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅
This exact text was sent 5 times in the span of 30 minutes
Week 18 (Eagles beat Giants, 20-13):
Never a doubt !!!!
And, that's a wrap! Thanks again to everyone - see you next year!
